floating/drag-able music player and general site improvement

Postby macdalor on Fri Jan 15, 2010 6:10 pm

Hi,

First of all let me tell you I am very impressed with this website! It's a dream!!! well done!

I am not a web dev or designer at all but made my website (www.davidloran.com) which I am in the process of improving and was wondering if you had an idea on how to create a "floating" music player that could be dragged around on the site's pages and always be present when going from one page to another, with the option to drag it out of the site (a bit like the google chat system).

A download option would also be nice but I guess that's not the biggest of the job ;-)

I'd also like to add life to the site in one way or another (text effects, animations etc) and would like to know your opinion on what could work nicely on this website

Any comments, advices, offers, links etc welcome

Thx a lot in advance

So the easy way to make it work , is to made a Pop up , but you can customize !

that provide the possibilities to lesson music or see video , when you change page !

look at this example !HERE

You are good!

The only thing is that it starts again if you go onto another page and click the back button on the browser so you end up with 2 sounds playing...But very nice start ;-)

Where can I get this player and can I modify its look?

I don't use Explorer and after your remark i control and like usual !! its an internet explorer bug ! 8)

on firefox or opera this problem didn't exist !

But its hard to correct

so i set the first player on "autostart" false ( for me its the best chose for the visitor , lots didn t like you impose music or video at the opening page )

so you give him the chose

no music at opening page and he can chose to

lesson only in the page with the embed player
or
if he want the music all the navigation he chose the popup !!

EXAMPLE 2

and yes you can customize the player ! with colours like a made in example ( colours and skin in fact )

and you can add a skin ! the skin example for this player HERE

actually I use firefox and safari (on mac) but I get your point.

Where can I get the source code of the player? Can I use any player? can I make it more "player" style instead of a "pop up window"?

i give you , the sources and skins , look the code in html

Download the player

and i give you a link to my generator , you can see all flashvars accepted by the player
IN SWF CODE GENERATOR chose JWPLAYER & SWF INSERTION GENERATOR V2

but for this special insertion you cant use the generated code !

btw its a great tool to insert a normal valid and clean swf insertion code in page !!

Like this one more easy if you have Flash CS3 ; i made this one for you with video explanation but very easy to config if you have flash

Nice one again RAD! you're a star! I'll give that a try and insert this new player...I'll have to re-write pages for this so it'll take me a bit of time but it's all fun! ;-)

Have you had a look at my site? What do you think? Any advices to add some life to it? What would you do on it?

I fully value your opinion, having seen the work you do so don't hesitate to be franc ;-)

cool...thanks for that...I'll give that a try this evening as I'm at work now (damm!) ;-)

I know you must be busy but have you had the chance to have a think about my earlier questions about "adding life" to my site?

hey RAD!

Me again I'm affraid ;-)

The player's great! How could I feed it with tracks by clicking the links already on my site instead of having a playlist? And could this playlist be built with the tracks I click on and be reset to an empty state? I'm trying to find a way for the registered users to still be able to download the tracks and mixes...

Thx

ok no problems RAD, just reply when ever you have time, no rush here ;-)

I really like the music player system you have on the Portfolio site! The fact that it plays one track when you enter the site and that it plays another when you click on it in the music page then comes back to the previous one when you go away from the page...very clever...

I'm trying to add the player you made for me embedded in my site and I would like it to play behave more or less like the one on your portfolio site, except that it would add the clicked tracks into the playlist instead of reading from an xml playlist...Can you advise please?

thx
